Maniken

58.50 CE hours - Certificate of Completion
17 class sessions - choice of morning or evening session

Course Description:
Maniken is a fun hands-on course that allows for many modalities of learning. Muscle origin, insertion, trigger points, pain referrals and actions are studied as students build each muscle on a skeleton (Maniken). Maniken incorporates 3-dimensional pictures, cadaver pictures, and action movies of the muscles, to allow for easy comprehension of muscle functions.

Finally, you will have hands-on experience palpating, muscle testing, stretching and strengthening the muscles.

Knowing attachment sites, trigger points, and actions of muscles is invaluable to a massage therapist. The information gained from this class helps massage therapist assess soft tissue dysfunction, plan a course of treatment, and educate their clients on proper home care.

Method of Learning:
PowerPoint presentation, hands on building muscles with clay on a Maniken, technique of palpating, muscle testing, stretching and strengthening muscles. A study guide providing a listing of muscles with their origin, insertion, and action will be provided.

Learning Outcomes:
The participants learn muscle attachments, muscle functions and muscle locations on the body.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand muscles shown on PowerPoint 3dimensional images, cadaver pictures, and action movies.
  • Be able to build muscles with clay on the Maniken. This aids in kinetic learning.
  • Palpation skills will be enhanced as participants learn how to palpate the muscle and their bony landmarks.
  • Muscle testing will be performed to determine that the correct muscle is being palpated.
  • Therapists will be able to perform stretching and strengthening techniques that are demonstrated. This increases the therapist's ability to allow clients to participate in maintaining health and wellbeing by homecare.
