Course Description:
Myofascial Release Therapy is an aspect of massage therapy that specifically designed to treat soft tissue postural dysfunctions and relieve client complaints.

Through this course, a massage therapist will be able to develop their treatment skills. With this type of therapeutic treatment technique, the collagen bonds in the muscles can be soften thus reducing muscle adhesions. Students will learn how to use slow compressive forces to lengthen the fiber of the muscles, transforming the dysfunctional characteristics of the soft tissue. Therapeutic massage techniques such as Myofascial Release Therapy have become an important foundation for clients that are in search ways to make their daily living activities enhanced. Add this type of therapeutic massage to your practice increase the types of massage you can offer your clients.

Method of Learning:
PowerPoint presentation and manual. Demonstrations with hands on practice.

Learning Outcomes:
Participants will understand how to evaluate and treat postural and soft tissue complaints. Therapists will be able to effectively apply methods learned to transform the dysfunctional characteristics of soft tissue.

  • Understand the ways in which different muscle fiber types respond to stress
  • Understand thixotropic properties are
  • Understand the intention of releasing eccentric muscles and lengthening concentric muscles
  • Understand the principles of conscious bodywork for the most beneficial application of deep tissue techniques
  • Understand the term "core" and how it relates to posture
  • Understand lower crossed syndrome and anterior pelvic tilt and which muscles are eccentric and concentric
  • Understand lateral pelvic tilt and which muscles are eccentric and concentric
  • Understand upper crossed syndrome and which muscles are eccentric and concentric
  • Understand thoracic kyphosis
  • Understand how breathing disorders affect posture and function.
  • Understand forward head posture and what happens to the heads center of gravity on the cervical spine.
  • Understand pronation strain
  • Understand muscular imbalances and strain patterns that occur at the wrist and elbow.
  • Know when to stretch a muscle and when to strengthen based on their strain pattern.
  • Be able to complete multiple postural observations, document findings, be able to treat and explain your rationale

    Prerequisite:
    Completion of at least a 500-Hour Massage Therapy/Bodywork program or other Health-Care Practitioner program
